Can I recycle plastic bags or wrap in my cart?: No. Plastic bags and wrap causes equipment jams at recycling processing facilities. These items can be taken to your local retail or grocery stores for recycling drop off such as Walmart, CashWise, and Marketplace. The Minot Public Library also accepts plastic bags for recycling.

1. What types of recyclables are collected?

#1, #2, #5 Plastic bottles, jugs, tubs, and lids (items should be rinsed and clean)
Aluminum cans (items should be rinsed and clean) 
Steel/tin cans (items should be rinsed and clean) 
Cardboard (flatten), paperboard, Mixed office paper, junk mail, newspaper, etc.

2. Can I recycle plastic bags or wrap in my cart?: No. Plastic bags and wrap causes equipment jams at recycling processing facilities. These items can be taken to your local retail or grocery stores for recycling drop off such as Walmart, CashWise, and Marketplace. The Minot Public Library also accepts plastic bags for recycling.

3. Can I recycle glass?: No. Glass will not be collected with this curbside service. There is currently little market for recycled glass, and it is costly to transport.

4. What time should I place my recycling cart out for collection?: Carts should be placed out the night before collection or no later than 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.  Recycling will replace one garbage collection every other week.

5. Are there any special instructions for placing carts out for collection?: Carts should be placed a few feet away from each other and within three (3) feet of the roadway. Please make sure the handle is away from the roadway. Do not place behind trees, mailboxes, lamp posts, or parked cars.

7. Will I be able to downsize the recycling cart?: Yes, you may downsize your recycling cart.

8. What if my cart is stolen or damaged?: The carts are owned and maintained by the city and do have RFID Tags. If your cart is stolen or damaged, please contact the city to have the cart replaced.

9. What's the cost if I participate in the recycling program?: $2.50 monthly beginning October 2023 following the free trial period.

10. Where do the recycled materials go?: Once collected at the curb, the recycled materials are taken to our recycling transfer station at the landfill to prepare the materials for transport. From the recycling transfer station, recyclables are transported to a sorting facility and contracted to sell on the secondary market.
