Alright everybody. Let's bring it in. We'll tie a bow on Tuesday's ice event. Our Snow Team shared some stats:
STORM STATS: ICE AND SANDING EVENT
Snow fall: <0.63 inches (YTD: ~5.13 inches)
Lane mileage: 843 miles traveled (YTD: 12,169 miles)
8 Blades
6 Sanders
1 Toolcat
2 Skid Steers
2 Mini-Loaders
1 Partridge in a Pear Tree
Salt/Sand mix: ~750.5 tons (YTD: ~2,265 tons)
Cutting edges used: 44 at $46.60 each (YTD: 129)
TWO NOTES FROM THE SNOW TEAM:
It's unusual to have all 6 sanders out at the same time. This was an unusual storm! Thank you to our drivers and to Fleet Maintenance who kept them on the road through that higher salt content. (Most commonly, we use a 4 to 1 sand to salt mixture. During this event, we used a 2 to 1 sand to salt mixture in most trucks, and straight salt in one truck.)
Remember that new salt building built at Public Works this year? Thank you for that. If we had been in the old building, we would have run out. We have a new salt delivery on the way. That delivery is in high demand all over the state. Thanks to that new building, we had enough on hand for the storm and enough to hold us over until the delivery arrives.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Snow is currently falling while we're calling a wrap on the last one. We have 2 sanders out maintaining roads. The blades are in the shop today: Brushing off some salt, washing some windows, restocking, fixing, maintaining.
We don't anticipate a full scale response with the light snow in the forecast. We're looking ahead to those 40º days next week. We're looking forward to some roadway shoulder maintenance, maybe maintain all the way through residential. It's what happens between storms that makes the magic for the next snow response.
